Dec 19, 2017 -Christmas Meeting and Partners Night: Over 50 members, partners and guests attended the turkey dinner Christmas meeting. Thanks to Lolaghers for the food and to the decorating committee of, Debbie Mulvihill, Deanna Kelly and Lucie Sauvageau for the lovely festive decorations. Gary Coulombe introduced and thanked Rev Elaine Beattie who spoke about “The Essence of Christmas” with humourous and reflective anecdotes (some of her own memories) on the good and the bad about Christmas. In the end she she stated that the essence of Christmas is HOPE.
Richard Czuba introduced and thanked Brian Cromie who spoke about “Canada's First Christmas Hymn” or “The Huron Carol” probably written in 1652 By Jean de Brebeuf with the Wendat tribe. He explained the history of the hymn and then asked us all to sing it. We were in pretty good voice that night. Richard Czuba introduced and thanked Sylvia McDonald who led the gathered in a singalong of Christmas Carols.
